Certificate in Geographic Information Systems

(Comming Soon! Approved by the Board of Regents; awaiting final approval from the CPE.)



Requirements

Introductory geoscience laboratory requirement (3 hours). Students may choose to take either:

  • GEO 210 Introduction to Physical Geography,
  • GLY 102 Earth Science for Teachers,
  • GLY 107 Gold and Diamonds,
  • GLY 108 Plate Tectonics: The Active Earth,
  • GLY 109 Great Moments in Earth History, or
  • GLY 172 Geology and Human Health.

Required GIS core courses (9 hours). Students must take:

  • GEO 353 Geographic Information Systems,
  • GEO 456 Geographic Image Interpretation, and
  • GEO 553 Advanced GIS.

Twelve (12) hours of electives, selected from the following:

  • GEO 351 Geographic Techniques,
  • GEO 455 GIS Cartography,
  • GEO 501 Advanced Geography: _________ (when topics are appropriate),
  • GEO 556 Advanced Geographic Imagery,
  • GLY 351 Field Methods,
  • CSC 177 Introduction to Visual Basic,
  • CRJ 403 Crime Mapping,
  • STA 270 Applied Statistics I or STA 500 Applied Statistical Inference, and
  • GEO 495 Practicum, GEO 498 Independent Study, or GLY 499 Senior Thesis (when topics are appropriate),
